First Responder Counseling
As a first responder you see people at the worst moments in their lives and at best this can wear on you. We are here to support you
As a first responder you see people at the worst moments in their lives. Depending on how busy your department is, you may see the worst moments of someone’s life 5, 10 or even 20 times during your shift. There is no question that what you see, at best, wears on you and, at the absolute worst, causes you to have difficulty functioning in your life at the level you would like to.
As the wife of an Army Veteran and deputy sheriff, I understand the toll that your work takes. The pressure from not only your command, but also the heightened and frequent micromanaging by society in general that you’ve experienced in the past four years. The pressure is exhausting, and at times policy seems to contradict what good policing is. The seemingly rubber band effect from bouncing from a critical call to a nonsense call, that you need to navigate with grace and not with frustration or humanity at times. The stress of not being able to tell people what you want to say, despite it being what they need to hear. And the reality that if you were to tell your family any of what goes through your mind you’d be convinced that they’d leave so you say nothing. Which often times leads to feeling nothing.
Reaching out for support while working in law enforcement (or any first responder for that matter) is difficult at best, and the long standing culture surrounding this has not been good. Counseling support doesn’t need to be overwhelming, and it doesn’t need to be a tarnish to your career; it certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t do your job. It just means that there are things you would like to put to rest so you can make it to your end of shift safely.
About First Responders Counseling
That is why we wanted to start a counseling office that specializes in treating first responders. You need a safe place to talk, and you need therapists that understand the culture of your job.
Many of our therapists are married to first responders. We will never claim to understand exactly what you see or deal with, but we do understand that the demands of your job have a tremendous impact on you as a person and on your family.
Our goal is to help you when you need it most and provide support to you and your family so you can continue to serve your community. We understand that you may only want to talk about what you just experienced and may not need a long-term therapy relationship.
We offer same day or next day appointments for first responders after a critical incident. We will accept private payment or insurance payments.
